OPTICHEM operates a fertilizer manufacturing plant at its factory in Chichiri, Blantyre, and


is the sole manufacturer of granular compound fertilizer in Malawi based on imported and


locally sourced raw materials.




Optichem has enjoyed the reputation for producing and supplying high quality fertilizers to


international standards for both smallholder and commercial farmers since its inception in


1969. Optichem has the capacity to manufacture over 100,000 tonnes per year of granular


and blended NPK fertilizer and with the anticipated future investment, this will increase still


further.




Currently Optichem provides employment to over 250 people and the company’s objective


is to promote fertilizer production in Malawi at competitive prices whilst providing employment to the local population. It is particularly focused on increasing the local content of


its manufactured products which not only results in more cost-effective fertilizers but also


reduces the country’s import requirements.




Optichem has modern warehousing facilities in Blantyre and Lilongwe and from these distribution centres supplies fertilizer for all crops grown in Malawi such as Maize, Tobacco,


Tea, Macadamia, Rice, Coffee, Cotton, Groundnuts and many more.
