AGORA was established in 1995 and setup to participate in the newly liberalized private sector, with special attention to fertilizer and the agro industry. Agora offers employment to over 450 Malawians. Agora distributes the same products as FWL and is based on the same model as Farmers World, but is situated in the Southern Region, ranging from Nsanje in Malawi’s very south to Ntcheu in the central region.
The Company currently operates 29 outlets within the southern region. Both companies also supply fertilizers to, and facilitate the distribution of, the Malawi Government Input Subsidy, through its network of shops nationally.
Another very important role for both FWL and Agora is the provision of linkages for cash crops between farmers, manufacturers and agro processors both local and international. As a result Farmers World and Agora have become one of the biggest buyers of commodities such as maize, soya beans, groundnuts, sugar beans, sunflower seed and pigeon peas in the country.
